″....‘The first official utterance of revolution did not spring from a congress of the colonies, or the future chiefs of the republic: from the rich who faltered, or the learned who weigh and debate. The people of the little interior town of Pembroke in Plymouth County, unpretending husbandmen, full of the glory of their descent from the Pilgrims, concluded a clear statement of their grievances with the prediction that ‘if the measures so justly complained of were persisted in and enforced by fleets and armies, they must, they will in a little time issue in the total dissolution of the union between the mother country and the colonies.’" --George Bancroft

A Message from MA Rep. Josh S. Cutler (D-6th Plymouth)

"HAPPY PEMBROKE RESOLVES DAY! Pleased to pass this House resolution recognizing December 28, 2018 as the Pembroke Resolves Day to commemorate the town's bravery and courage in rebelling against King George and Mother England on this date in 1772. The Pembroke Resolves were series of ten articles detailing grievances against Great Britain and their meddling in domestic affairs. The articles were authored by Town Clerk John Turner and several other distinguished Pembroke residents comprising the town's Committee of Correspondence, and approved by Pembroke Town Meeting on Dec 28, 1772. Many other towns later offered their own resolves setting out a list of grievances against the crown, but Pembroke was the first to go so far as calling for independence. Thanks to Bert White and Steve Herrmann for helping organize this revolutionary recognition effort. We all learn about the "shot heard round the world" in Lexington and Concord, but this "proverbial" shot heard round the world certainly merits its own recognition."
